JobQuest ("we," "us," or "our") operates the JobQuest web application and related services. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our platform. Please read this policy carefully. By using JobQuest, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information:

Account Information

  • Email address
  • Full name
  • Authentication credentials (managed securely by Supabase Auth)

Profile Information

  • Industry and career details (current title, target title, years of experience)
  • Job seeker type (active, passive, career switcher, new grad, laid off)
  • Education level and field of study
  • Weekly hours available for job searching
  • LinkedIn, GitHub, and portfolio URLs (optional)

Resume Data

  • Uploaded resume files
  • Extracted plain text from resumes (used for AI processing)
  • Job descriptions you submit for ATS scoring

Job Search Activity Data

  • Logged activities (applications, outreach, networking calls, interviews, etc.)
  • Application pipeline data (company, job title, status, notes)
  • Weekly plan progress and completion data

Usage Data

  • Pages visited and features used
  • Browser type and device information
  • IP address and approximate location
  • Interaction patterns and session duration

How We Use Artificial Intelligence

JobQuest uses OpenAI's GPT-4.1 mini model to power several features. When you use AI-powered features, your data is sent to OpenAI for processing:

  • Plan Generation: Your profile information (industry, target role, experience, available hours) is sent to OpenAI to generate personalized weekly job search plans.
  • ATS Resume Scoring: Your resume text and the job description you provide are sent to OpenAI for analysis and scoring.
  • Weekly Coaching Digest: Your weekly activity data and profile context are sent to OpenAI to generate personalized coaching emails.

We do not use your data to train AI models. OpenAI processes data according to their API data usage policies, which prohibit using API inputs and outputs for model training.

Data Storage

Your data is stored using the following infrastructure:

  • Database: Account information, profile data, activity logs, and application pipeline data are stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted by Supabase.
  • File Storage: Uploaded resume files are stored in Supabase Storage with secure access controls.
  • Authentication: Authentication credentials are managed by Supabase Auth and are never stored in plain text.

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate JobQuest. Each service receives only the data necessary for its function:

  • Supabase — Authentication, database hosting, and file storage.
  • OpenAI — AI-powered features including plan generation, resume scoring, and digest generation.
  • Stripe — Payment processing for Pro subscriptions. We do not store your payment card details; they are handled entirely by Stripe.
  • Resend — Email delivery for weekly coaching digests and transactional emails.
  • Sentry — Error monitoring and crash reporting to help us fix bugs and improve reliability.
  • PostHog — Product analytics to understand how features are used and improve the platform.

Your Rights

You have the following rights regarding your data:

  • Access: You can view all personal data we hold about you through your account settings.
  • Export: You can export your data (activities, applications, profile) in CSV format at any time from your settings page.
  • Deletion: You can request complete deletion of your account and all associated data by contacting us or through your account settings. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.
  • Portability: Your exported data is provided in standard formats (CSV) that can be used with other services.
  • Correction: You can update or correct your profile information at any time through your account settings.

Cookie Policy

JobQuest uses cookies for the following purposes:

  • Essential Cookies: Session cookies for authentication. These are required for the platform to function and cannot be disabled.
  • Analytics Cookies: PostHog uses cookies to collect anonymized usage data. These help us understand how the platform is used and improve the experience. You can opt out of analytics tracking in your browser settings.

We do not use advertising cookies or sell data to advertisers.

Data Retention

  • Account Data: All account data (profile, activities, applications, resumes) is retained for as long as your account is active. Data is permanently deleted when you delete your account.
  • Abuse and Security Logs: Logs related to rate limiting, security events, and abuse prevention are retained for 90 days and then automatically purged.
  • Backups: Database backups may retain deleted data for up to 30 days after deletion, after which it is permanently removed.

Security Measures

We take the security of your data seriously and implement the following measures:

  • All data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS.
  • Database connections are encrypted and access-controlled.
  • Authentication credentials are hashed and never stored in plain text.
  • API endpoints are protected with rate limiting to prevent abuse.
  • File uploads are stored with secure access controls in Supabase Storage.
  • All AI and database operations are performed server-side only; no secrets are exposed to the client.

While we strive to protect your data, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children's Privacy

JobQuest is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete that information promptly. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, please contact us at support@jobquest.app.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you via the email address associated with your account at least 14 days before the changes take effect. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Your continued use of JobQuest after changes are effective constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
